I need people to understand how difficult it is to get an NIH grant. You spend months writing a proposal, following strict guidelines that include a detailed multiyear budget, bios of everyone on your team, plans for participant safety & ethical conduct. Then you send it off -1/n

Everything feels weird and uncertain, and I can only imagine how trainees feel right now… so are some things mentors can do to support mentees during these challenging times:

A US judge has blocked a policy that would have, beginning today, slashed billions of dollars of funding annually for US research institutions, including universities and hospitals. The action is in response to a lawsuit filed by 22 US states earlier today contending that the

Today, along with 2,000 other NIH employees, I had to clear out my office 😭 It was truly the honor of my life to work with such incredibly passionate people focused on improving human health.

Physically doing science, not just being talked down to about it, would change a lot of people's minds. Part of the reason why folks are skeptical of scientific institutions is the moat between general public participation and the various fields of research.

Just heard that Vanderbilt rescinded all of its PhD offers because of NIH and NSF funding cuts and that Washington University St Louis is claiming that the STEM fields fund all the other depts and will be looking at cutting arts, etc.

OK PubMed is down It's run by the NIH and the main way to search for academic papers. If this isn't a temporary thing , and is a Trump/Musk doing, academics around the world are royally screwed right now.

It’s so disorienting to be living through extinction event climate soup and watching every major institution crumble and still want to have a beautiful life and try to find ways to experience goodness and to not let your mind consumed with darkness while everyone gaslights you.

The transgenic vs. transgender debate is a stark reminder that scientists speak a language that makes sense to us but not always to the public. We’re at a critical moment for science communication - there has never been a time when bridging this gap has been more important

• Men interrupt women in professional settings 33% more often than they do men. • Women in STEM need a PhD to be perceived to be as competent as a man with a bachelors in the same field. Happy International Women’s Day.

Terminating unrelated biomedical research grants because of political accusations before any kind of investigation or due process is an obscene authoritarian move that in addition to being unamerican, will weaken America permanently

Dr. Catharine Young (@catgyoung) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We are watching the pipeline of the next generation of scientists collapse in real time. Cutting opportunities for trainees doesn’t just affect them-it stalls biomedical innovation progress for this country.
