UK tax system is rigged against workers. A worker on £32k wage pays £3,886 in income tax and £2,332 NIC; takes home £25,782 A speculator with £32k capital gains pays £2,600 in capital gains tax, no NIC, takes home £29,400. UK tax system is unjust. leftfootforward.org/2023/08/britai…

What is staggering is that it took markets so long to appreciate that making housing unaffordable for most people in the country might have a consequence for housebuilders.... theguardian.com/business/2023/…

13m British homes ‘did not turn on heating when cold last winter’. Misery and death inflicted by low incomes, profiteering and a political system that prioritizes welfare of corporations/rich. Need equitable distribution of income/wealth, democracy. theguardian.com/money/2023/aug…

No one needs billionaires to colonize outer space. We need them to pay their fair share of taxes so people can thrive here on Earth.

CEO-to-worker pay ratio in 1965: 20-1 CEO-to-worker pay ratio in 1989: 61-1 CEO-to-worker pay ratio today: 399-to-1 Corporations and CEOs refuse to stop consolidating wealth and power. This is why thousands of workers across industries are striking, or planning to strike.

"If we impose taxes on ecologically damaging production, consumption, and carbon emissions, and distribute the revenue as a #BasicIncome to all members of society, industries that contribute to climate destruction would diminish, and inequality would be alleviated." #BIEN2023

Norway has a £1 trillion + wealth fund built by taxing fossil fuel giants at 78%. Last year alone Norway collected $89bn in tax from fossil fuel giants. Norway also state owns 100% of Statkraft, Europe’s largest renewable energy producer. Windfall taxes are publicity games.

GM estimated its median employee compensation was $80K last year. Meanwhile, GM’s CEO took home about $29M in compensation. That's a 362-to-1 ratio. Do you think GM's CEO works 362x as hard as folks on the assembly line? Don't tell me GM can't afford to pay its workers more.

Many don't realize how overpaid CEOs are. A Stanford survey showed Americans think CEOs are pulling in roughly a tenth of what they’re actually making. Americans said the right ratio between CEO and median worker pay should be 6-to-1. The actual ratio? More than 399-to-1.

“We can’t have a food system oriented toward commodities, biofuels, & animal feed; it must prioritise nutrition & respect life’s interconnectedness.” #Extinction2023 speaker Dr. Vandana Shiva is right – we need farming practices that benefit people & planet. frontline.thehindu.com/interviews/int…

.Prem Sikka could it be possible that inflating property value through obtaining planning permission at scale is where the real attraction lies? Houses being expensive to build, maybe developer balance sheets look good before building costs start adding up?

CEO-to-worker pay ratios at a few major companies: Live Nation: 5,414-to-1. TJX (parent company of Marshall's and TJ Maxx): 2,249-to-1 Coca-Cola: 1,883-to-1 Yum Brands: 1603-to-1 Chipotle: 1,073-to-1 Walmart: 933-to-1 This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.
