Major correction to my own tweet! A 42% increase results in an X1.42 flare, NOT a X4.2. This means that HALF the X-class from this cycle, would NOT have been counted under the previous cycle.

Last weekend’s solar storms would probably have not excited the Indian subcontinent if it were not for few good souls staying up late at a remote observatory in #Ladakh Wangchuk Namgyal et al’s picture of the rare red arc aurora brought home the space storms to #India +

This is important especially when we are at the peak of solar maxima and getting major solae flare. Please look at this thread to understand how the GOES calibration can effect the magnitude of the flare.

After increasing certain PhD stipends by less than the recommended amount at last year's budget, Simon Harris TD promised that increases would continue yearly. Will Patrick O'Donovan keep this promise next Tuesday? And will we see supports benefiting ALL postgrad researchers? 🤔

What opportunities exist for students and postdocs we train in the industry and start-up ecosystem? How can we catalyze academia industry connections in space sciences with a focus on Heliophysics? It was a pleasure to convene an online panel discussion focussing on these
