Negotiated a 3% rent decrease in my already underpriced apartment, shout-out to Sacramento city government for supporting housing construction. Only through elevated vacancy rates was this even possible.

The City Council is doubling down on their efforts to ensure is in the NYC budget.

What started as a Progressive Caucus campaign has broad Council support. New Yorkers want more affordable rental options *and* pathways to homeownership.

INBOX: DOT Commish Rodriguez heads to Albany again to lobby for renewing and expanding red light cameras from 1% of city intersections to 10%.
Gov. Hochul recently told me she backed renewal but didn't say if she supported more cams. nyc.streetsblog.org/2024/05/10/gov…

The best approach to unclogging the ZBA would be to analyze what are the most common types of variances people seek, and then change the zoning code to eliminate those provisions so more things can happen by-right

Today I did something that I haven’t done since I tore my meniscus in my left knee 3 1/2 years ago: I walked over the Brooklyn Bridge.

It’s also the first time since they put in a on the roadway and banished vendors from the bridge.

It was so wonderful & peaceful!

I just discovered a trove of 2008 photos I stashed away in a folder. Yesterday, walking over the Brooklyn Bridge I took an 'after' of one.

Tremendous. I have 100s of photos of NYC places (video too, of course!) that have changed dramatically.

Seems bad that Dumbo, Downtown, Long Island City, and Hudson Yards are the only neighborhoods significantly growing in NYC

The case for undemonstrated SMRs over AP1000 was always fairly weak, but it wasn’t until NuScale’s abandonment & Vogtle’s completion that more nuclear proponents have felt emboldened to say so.

NEW: A senior official at DOE's loan office said Vogtle has drummed up interest in building more large-scale -- not SMR/advanced/micro -- reactors.

Yep, you read that right:

PERSPECTIVE: In 1969, over 100 Black students (some of them armed!) seized and held a building at Cornell University. It ended peacefully. One of the youngest occupiers, Zachary Carter, went on to become a respected judge, a U.S. Attorney, and NYC's Corporation Counsel.

And it's not enough just to commit capital: NYC Housing also must follow through by speeding up the time it takes to fill affordable units.

Last year, the median time to fill 95% of affordable units in new buildings was 262 days—nearly 9 months—up 56% from 2022.
