Fantastic speech by Adam R this evening, doing BGS proud at the York&NYorks Historical Assoc Great Debate on whether we should judge historical figures by today’s moral standards. The standard of all the entries was amazingly high.

Great performance by the Y9 indoor cricket team v Headlands & Driffield schools. Edged out of the next round, but some excellent individual performances (notably Freddie N with the bat) and a smashing team spirit, ensuring everyone got a full game. Well done! #catcheswinmatches!

Congratulations to Will Jukes in Y13 who won the excellent York & North Yorks heat of the Historical Assoc 2022 #GreatDebate last night with his fantastic speech on the most significant changes to our local area during the last 70 years. Bring on the final at Windsor Castle in March!

Lots of thoughtful work from Y8 on our new enquiry, ‘What should we talk about when we talk about slavery?’ : looking at what Akan society in Ghana was like before - and how it was affected by - the transatlantic slave trade & the different ways enslaved people resisted.

Wonderful to see so many students - new & old and from all year groups, Y7 right up to Y13 - enjoying, making new friends & growing in confidence at the History Debating Society this half-term: well done to everyone who’s got involved! And all welcome (Friday lunchtimes in H1).

While Y11 are doing their Cold War in Asia paper, Y10 are enjoying a day’s cricket down at Beverley CC. Some big hitting from Rory A and some smashing fielding has the first game versus Driffield nicely poised…

Narrow loss to Driffield in the end, but a much improved batting performance versus Malet Lambert & a strong all-round team effort against St Mary’s means, at lunch, BGS could yet earn themselves a day out at Ampleforth..! J Rampling and W Hook in great touch with the bat.

Another win in the final game versus Hornsea to finish second in the group and narrowly miss out on the Yorkshire finals by just 8 runs. Great performance & sportsmanship by skipper J Burton, Rory & Alex A, Theo S, Simon L, James R, Will H and Henry L.
