I was honored to speak to members of National Press Club this afternoon. I discussed our commitment as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to follow the Savior’s example in word and deed.

Jesus Christ can bring peace to those whose lives have been ravaged by war. Wars of our present era are . . . wrenching to families. Those who so suffer can turn to the Lord. His is the consoling message of peace on earth and good will among men.

I would like to suggest five specific actions we can take to help us maintain positive spiritual momentum. 1. Get on the covenant path and stay there. 2. Discover the joy of daily repentance. 3. Learn about God and how He works.

The formula that the Lord gave [for problem solving] can be categorized in three different steps: 1. Whatever your problem is, you study it out. You try to find the cause of the problem. 2. Consult proper authority - in this case, the Lord.

I recently had a thought about a word in a passage of scripture (Moroni 4:3) that we often hear that we perhaps could more fully comprehend. As we better understand the principle I discuss in this video, we will improve in our discipleship of Jesus Christ.

Why do we teach tithing to the poor? Because it takes the poverty out of the people. Heavenly Father made a promise to His children that the windows of heaven will be opened to the tithe payers; blessings will be poured out upon the people.

“Many are called, but few are chosen.” God does not have a list of favorites to which we must hope our names will someday be added. He does not limit “the chosen” to a restricted few. Rather, we ultimately choose to be chosen through the righteous exercise of our moral agency.
