Everyday this annoys me - but still children are taught that explicit reading skills are the most important thing about being a good reader! No mention of reading identity, social cultural background - just skills teaching and practising questions using text extracts.

So important - we also need to ensure we are giving as much attention to the social/cultural aspect of reading and the personal identity of a reader as we do the cognitive side. Such an important thread to read
