A teacher at school used to call me 'Beth with the flappy hands' and even added it as a line in a song they wrote about the class... It was something I was made to feel really embarrassed about it. Glad it's being talked about more & in a good way #ItsHowYouShowUp

This #AutismAwarenessMonth, I’m thinking of the thousands of autistic people in the UK facing disability benefits cuts due to PIP changes. As National Autistic Society says, with 3 in 10 autistic people in work, the government should focus on improving job accessibility - not cut vital support.

1. It has been one year since Stolen Lives protested outside the Senedd. Detention of people with learning disabilities and autistic people is a human rights issue. It results in harm, abuse and long-term trauma.

A year ago today we joined the Stolen Lives protest outside the Senedd, calling on the Welsh Government to stop inappropriate placement of people with learning disabilities and autism in mental health settings. Read the full press release at allwalespeople1st.co.uk/homes-not-hosp… 1/6

It's important to keep sharing stories like these to show the real impact of cutting PIP. It just shows a lack of understanding by government about what benefit does what. Cutting PIP and Access to Work will definitely impact people with disabilities already in work.

Absolutely right National Autistic Society. I do love the fact that everyone thinks they just 'hand out' diagnoses these days. Like you walk in and they give just them out. The misinformed media are just exacerbating this & supporting those wanting to score political brownie points.

PIP is more than money - it’s access, independence, dignity. Without it, disabled people face deeper poverty and exclusion. We an our allies are calling on the UK Government to protect disability benefits & reconsider these heartless cuts. 📎 Read more: disabilitywales.org/press-release-…

As the AWF, we are concerned with this move as we know from families how easy it has been for their loved one to be sectioned. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Thank you so much to Care Inspectorate Wales for inviting Learning Disability Wales along to your event this morning. It was inspiring to hear about all the work you’ve been doing with service users, their families & stakeholders to form your new strategic plan. The passion in the room was evident ☺️

Love this 🥰 sometimes when u share my special interests people give me a funny look. But the calm, joy and emotional regulation it brings reinforces the importance of our ‘weird’ and wonderful #actuallyautistic interests 🥰

Neurotypical people call it “thinking outside the box”. ADHDers are just confused why there had to be a box in the first place.

NEW POLLING FOR WALES Senedd voting intention: Plaid 30% Reform 25% Labour 18% Conservatives 13% Lib Dem 7% Green 5% Other 2% What's most interesting is that Labour voters are going to Plaid and Tory voters are going to Reform. Make you wonder why Labour are so obsessed

Good to see barriers/attitudes towards disabled people at work also being shared at this Committee. More support needs to be given to both employers and people with disabilities/neurodivergent conditions to create more inclusive and more diverse workplaces.

It's ridiculous that only 20 tickets were available to this & disabled people were kept from having their say. There's only ONE in-person consultation event in the whole of Wales & the info didn't tell you the date or location. Just that it was 'accessible' (by whose standards?)
