Learning is always more fun with a good friend.

"We have igneous rocks! Do you know what that means? These ones came from a volcano!" shouted one student as they entered our classroom this afternoon. Today we got to examine rocks, minerals, and fossils while working on our questioning skills.

A few of my students decided that we needed classroom currency. They made and distributed these independently. The whole class has been discussing how we could use our new bills. I love that one of my students stood next to me to sketch this. Spot on!

Students are working together to problem solve and measure a space that is larger than our measuring tools. They will be using the dimensions of this outdoor space to create backyard designs in Assemblr.

My students enjoyed learning about the tree octopus. We are now beginning to improve our skills at identifying reliable resources.

How can we reduce the impacts of Earth's natural processes on humans? I love engineering challenges!

We used Generate- Sort- Connect- Elaborate to reflect on and deepen our understanding of Earth's processes.

Students analyzed a Grade 4 piece of nonfiction writing to set goals for their own work.

Great start to our all staff orientation! Today the new teachers were presented with a traditional Latvian belt and song. It was incredible.

We began to learn about the scientific process through an egg experiment. We created a question and made some hypotheses. They were amazed by the results! Afterward we explored causation, discussing chemical reactions, molecules, and osmosis.

We used cabbage as a pH indicator to explore acids and bases. Students continued to learn about the scientific process by creating their own questions, making hypotheses, observing and drawing conclusions. They are building curiosity and a love of science!

We introduced the idea of procedural writing with a series of images. One partner gave instructions to their teammates to help them replicate secret images. We had fun while developing precise language.

Starting the PYPx from a distance this year has been difficult, but collaborative tools like Jamboard, Coggle and Padlet have made tuning in just a little bit easier. I love how technology can bring us closer together.

I loved how excited the kids were this morning to see the replies from their mentors in their inbox. We all felt so supported by our community today.

Everyone was so grateful to be learning in person on our first day of school. I was impressed by the positive communication that I heard throughout the day, especially during our team building activities.

Last week, students measured classroom furniture and created maps of layouts that they would like for our classroom. Yesterday we voted on their plans and then physically moved furniture to get a feel for our favourite designs. I'm really happy with this year's maps!

Today we began to explore sketchnoting in G5. We started by creating visual libraries that will help us to record our thinking quickly while we explore a variety of resources.
