My favorite street dog rescue of all time is without a doubt Shaq. This photo I was sent was the first I knew of him. I saw the mass growing out of his neck and had to go get him immediately. His recovery has been incredible and yesterday I went to visit him (1/10)

First off we tried draining it at the vets but it just kept getting bigger. Shaq was too weak with bad blood parasites for an operation so we had to build his strength up for 4 weeks. Most vets refused to operate. His chances were 50/50 at best (2/10)

There wasn’t much of a decision to make. Take the risk and operate despite it being close to large veins or let Shaq die as it expanded. We went ahead and did the operation but my nerves were shattered (3/10)

I’ll never forget the noises he was making after his operation. He was back in my house and I genuinely thought he might die that night. Shaq was fighting for his life (5/10)

It was an incredibly hard recovery and it needed a 2nd operation and many vet visits. He was still in agony but Shaq never complained once and he trusted us throughout the process without question (6/10)

The scar gives you some indication of just how close this was for Shaq. The vets overcame so many challenges along the way. There’s no way he’d have lived more than a few weeks but he’s fully healed and I love visiting him now… (7/10)

I go and visit him and a small group of dogs he lives with in a quiet area. I always make sure to bring extra sausages and ham for Shaq as well as his medicines. His health is perfect now and he loves it here (8/10)

Shaq still remembers how to sit and I like to think he remembers the hard times together. Of course I’d love to have kept him but there are dozens of similar dogs. Helping more of his friends is more important than collecting dogs. He loves his life now (9/10)

Shaq is one of the very best boys you’ll ever meet. He’s a little older but very happy in his life now. Going back to see him and his big beautiful handsome face is one of my favorite things to do in life 🙏🥰 (10/10)
