A smoke filled sky made for an interesting sunset tonight as firefighters undertake much needed hazard reduction burns across NSW. #nswrfs #npws

Hundreds of volunteers are giving up their weekend to conduct crucial hazard reduction burns, with over 10,000ha being treated. Smoke from these burns is settling across a broad area & may linger until mid week when a wind change and possible showers will help to clear the smoke.

While our firefighters prepare to depart for Canada, the #RFS Large Air Tanker 'Marie Bashir' continues to assist CAL FIRE with fires burning throughout California. Our LAT has now completed 85 drops across 24 different fires, delivering more than 1 million litres of retardant.

In great news, the #RFS helicopter was able to help locate the missing hiker in the Blue Mountains this afternoon. The search included local police with the assistance of Police Rescue, PolAir, NSW Ambulance Service, State Emergency Service and the Rural Fire Service.

Well done to the Aussie media that are taking care of themselves whilst covering #californiafires good to see so many of you wearing protective clothing. Isabelle Mullen
