In the past, approval of such textbooks would cause quite a stir in Korea-Japan relations and this is a quick test of how or whether Yoon will adjust his foreign policy in the wake of the election. That said, I’d be surprised if he did. End

The textbook also denies Korean claims to Dokdo and claims the 1965 treaty on normalization of relations between South Korea and Japan settled all claims regarding issues during the colonial era, two common positions by the Japanese government. 7/

About the so-called comfort women, the textbook says “It is not true that the Japanese Army forcibly took away Korean women and they were compensated.” 6/

Today is the anniversary of Korea’s 4.19 Revolution when students rose against the dictatorship of Rhee Syngman. When martial law was imposed, guards outside the presidential estate opened fire on the students. 186 died and 6,000+ were injured. Rhee later resigned on 4.26 1960.

Funny cartoon criticizing Yoon’s speech today.

Yoon: “I put national affairs on the correct path and worked hard.”

Man holding the ballot box above his head as a form of punishment: “we the stupid people apologize for not recognizing this.”

Yoon makes a lengthy statement following his party’s thumping in the election last week, but the progressive media is already jumping on him for arguing his policies were basically fine and claiming he didn’t go far enough so that people could “feel” it. en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN202404…

🚨⛳️ Did you know South Korea has more than 545 golf courses? Enough to cover 83% of Seoul or nearly 30% of Jeju. And in 2024, 10 more will open.

Golf is immensely popular in South Korea. The R&A ranks South Korea as the 3rd largest golf market worldwide.
