Every week different students and faculty at my school are out sick, and several others should be. Today a painter was brought into my house who kept sniffling. It might not be Covid, but there are so many other things it could be that it’s irresponsible to assume you’re fine.

The man whose foot is broken… >>The man with the broken foot… The drawer (that’s? whose?) handle is broken… >>The drawer with the broken handle… I’ve been languaging for years. How am I just noticing this lack of equivalent?

Just to be clear, when I say “post-Covid,” I mean that like BCE/CE. Pre-Covid is February 2020 and earlier. Post-Covid is everything since March 2020. Obviously Covid is still a thing. Obviously it’s not over. It’s just more efficient to word it this way.

There are people who justify left and right, and there are people who don't know that button exists. I refuse to believe anyone aligns left when there is a button that makes it look so much better.

As always, I'm excited about #NationalGrammarDay coming up this weekend. I submitted some poems to the annual ACES: The Society for Editing (use other social) contest, but I thought I'd ask everyone's favorite new toy to have a go as well. I am relatively impressed, but those last two stanzas are not smooth at all.

It seems like a conventional flaw that we order grammatical gender m/f/n when oftentimes (basing this on Latin and German), the neuter looks like the masculine.

Today a student asked me , “¿Qué significa oso?” I instinctively said, “a ver” when thinking of a good description. Accidental word play is the best kind.

We had a door decorating contest at school. Our office door: “Snow much fun with languages.” Feeling compelled to translate the phrase into #Spanish, I settled on “los idiomas son diverfríos”
