Photography isn't one of our strong points, but we will certainly be participating again this year! All species records are useful so why not give it a go?🐦🐤🦉

The criminal penalties, on paper, are pretty strong for wildlife offences, but they must be dealt with in a consistent manner and utilising the full extent of punishment available - 'The law isn’t working' theecologist.org/2020/jan/28/la…

Unfortunately the date of the AGM has had to be changed and it will now be on Monday March 23rd. The venue and arrangements will stay the same - 7.30pm at The Broads Authority, Yare House, 62-64, Thorpe Road, Norwich, NR1 1RY, where parking is available in the car park

Our first record this year of skylark in full song was one of the most surprising sounds to hear during a lull in Storm Dennis this morning! #birdsong #thebirdsdontcare

It is a sad day for us at Bench Ecology HQ as we have watched and heard machinery ploughing through a c.250m x 20m strip of dense gorse scrub in the adjacent field. Don't worry though, once the houses are built, it will eventually be replaced with "Woodland Meadow Seed Mix"... 🙄

Further to our post yesterday, I can confirm no breeding bird check was carried out prior to a 500m area of gorse being cleared and the mobile plant operator has been warned this is necessary before any remaining areas are cleared. #saveourwildlife

On a more cheery note, our garden is always maturing and helping to support plenty of wildlife, including this queen buff-tailed bee feasting on a hyacinth #queenbee #savethebees

We are glad to see CIEEM have provided comprehensive and sensible guidance for undertaking field work this coming survey season. As with most things in ecology, it is important to assess everything on a case-by-case basis! cieem.net/resource/advic…

Bats do a lot of good - humans cause problems when they encroach on bats’ habitats or harvest bats for medicine or food. It’s wrong to blame bats for the #coronavirus epidemic. From The Conversation U.S. theconversation.com/its-wrong-to-b…

The NBN awards celebrate people who have made a big contribution to wildlife recording. Last year there was a winner from Norfolk and it would be great if we could get some Norfolk nominations this year too! Click this link to make your nominations: nbn.org.uk/news-events-pu…

Every autumn/winter, thrushes migrate to #Norfolk from mainland Europe. In order to monitor their populations, we need YOU to send in your sightings. If you have seen any #winteringbirds please send your #wildliferecords: Who, What, Where and When, to [email protected].
