Finally for Watercress Farm, Belmont Estate. Sunday 11th was an Oak night with around twenty Eared Leafhopper (Ledra aurita) & ten Oak Bush Cricket to light but the star 'bug' was this extraordinary Acorn Weevil (Curculio glandium). Courtesy of Bob Fleetwood as always. 😀

We visited Belmont Estate's Watercress Farm Site with our Wessex Water Guardians. It was incredibly interesting to see how their rewilding and nature recovery is progressing, particularly the river meandering. Thanks to Belmont for providing such an enriching experience!

96 species on Monday 3rd September at Watercress Farm, Belmont Estate. Seven additions took our moth list to 481 species & our overall species list to 1,900 species. A few pics of additons - Lilac Beauty; Beautiful China-mark; Acleris emargana; & Donacaula forficella. 😊

Belmont Estate And within a year your wetland is attracting these ! Some of the first Willow Emerald Damselflies to be seen ovipositing in Somerset ( they are a species whose range has been expanding west ) congratulations Thanks to Alan C for the heads-up

On Thursday (17th), at Watercress Farm Belmont Estate, a year after the initial works, the rewetted fields already abounded with life. Great White Egret flew over, Common Darters buzzed everywhere & the ponds were booming. Over 2,000 species recorded at the site in 3 years. 👏

Delightful evening with three Owl species in an hour or so from dusk at Watercress Farm, Belmont Estate with Howard Taffs. At least one Tawny heard, 2 Barns hunting & interacting with each other & at least 2 Little Owls. Excellent signs of nature bouncing back with help. 😀

My final 2024 round up. Other wildlife. Two great apes simply superb with Eastern Gorilla & Chimpanzee in Uganda, Fin Whale from a Scillonian Crossing also a star & finally, Acorn Weevil from Watercress Farm, Belmont Estate representing over 1,000 insects recorded there. 😀
