An afternoon spent today at Watercress Farm, Belmont Estate produced the usual varied wildlife experience with Hobby, Roe Deer, Beautiful Demoiselle & flowers full of Cocksfoot Moths. Moth yearlist for the site has risen to 145 species. π

Itchy feet to get in the field again soon so eyes on the weather. Our 447th moth species for Watercress Farm Belmont Estate was Grapholita janthinana (Hawthorn Piercer) to pheremone lure on Saturday 25th May. It was our 146th species for the year. π


Running 5 traps overnight at Watercress Farm, Belmont Estate on 1st June produced 102 species. My first 100+ species night of the year. 4 new species for the site took the site list to 451 moth species. Pics of Buff Arches, Scorched Wing, Dark Spectacle & Alder Moth attached. π

Finally for Watercress Farm, Belmont Estate. Sunday 11th was an Oak night with around twenty Eared Leafhopper (Ledra aurita) & ten Oak Bush Cricket to light but the star 'bug' was this extraordinary Acorn Weevil (Curculio glandium). Courtesy of Bob Fleetwood as always. π


We visited Belmont Estate's Watercress Farm Site with our Wessex Water Guardians. It was incredibly interesting to see how their rewilding and nature recovery is progressing, particularly the river meandering. Thanks to Belmont for providing such an enriching experience!
