Apricot blossom in full bloom in #Chichester on a south facing wall in the city centre. It blooms very early so needs protecting from the frost

I picked up a lovely swarm two or so weeks ago. It had a virgin queen as she was not laying straight away. Then eggs. So I marked her last weekend. Then this week, no queen and eight plus QCs. I am fairly sure I did not squash her, perhaps they did not like her new paint work?

I’ve had no honey off yet. Bees built up well, lots of bees, keen to get out in April & May, but weather was sh1t. Last week of May & 1st of June they brought it in. Since then, flat, & then the last 2 weeks they have eaten it all. What is left is not capped. What is going on?

My home made roofs had sides made of 12mm ply. However much paint I put on the edges they still delaminated. I have tried a version with feather edge board. A frame from decking off cuts. A 50mm insulation filler. It seems to work quite well, a little more delicate, but cheap!

My BS Honey Bees poly nuc being used as two mating nucs, entrances at opposite ends. Hoping for two laying queens in about three weeks. Silver bubble wrap, ‘nuc-cosy’ to keep the heat in during the cold nights.
