Is it any wonder that teachers, principals and parents are stressed, confused and still struggling under the weight of contradictions? #insiders

Bradfordville PS is a welcoming and inclusive school. Great to talk with principal Bede Darcey about the school’s data and improvement strategies for 2021 and beyond.

Principals - whilst planning your priorities, strategies and initiatives for 2021, make sure you prioritise your own wellbeing and time with your colleagues. The learning and value gained from sharing insights with other principals benefits yourself, your students and our system.

Here's to all the teachers who are flying under the radar... not getting much attention. Their engaging lessons aren’t on Twitter. Their cool interactions with kids aren’t captured on YouTube. But they’re still crushing it. And they’re making a difference for a lot of students.

I believe all students want to be successful. I believe teachers who view themselves as the most important variable in the classroom have the biggest impact. I believe teachers are stronger when they collaborate. I believe administrators should support and reinforce the process.

Principals, you don’t have to know it all. In fact your job is easier when you realize that you are surrounded with staff that may be smarter than you in some areas. Draw on their strengths. That shows you value them, but it also shows that you are a confident leader.

Teacher retention: if you want to keep the best teachers, treat them like they are the best. Few teachers leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals.

Good school culture is never a fluke. It results from educators who love their job and make decisions based on the best interests of kids!
