This is the most common anti-transit statistic in the US. Most Americans have no access to useful public transit, so the rate of ridership among all Americans is meaningless.

I’m introducing our SAFER California Streets legislative package to reduce traffic deaths & injuries. SB 961 requires installed speed limiters in vehicles & side guards in trucks. SB 960 requires CA to make state-owned streets safer for pedestrians, cyclists & bus riders.🧵

Much of what constitutes a pro-urbanism focus is broadly popular. But since the zoning process is broadly discriminatory (unrepresentative, opposition opinion vs evidence-based, co-opted by bias & personal interest) we get the opposite outcome of what a majority actually wants.

Local parking mandates: - Drive up housing costs, - Limit affordable housing, - Increase sprawl, driving & GHGs, - Hurt businesses, - Force people to pay for more parking than they need. I can't wait to work to pass this bill to ban local parking mandates in many Colorado cities. Parking mandates distort the market, drive up the cost of housing, and make traffic and pollution worse. As Donald Shoup says, parking mandates are like fertility drugs for cars.

👏New bill in Colorado would eliminate costly parking mandates for new development in urban areas. HB24-1304: leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb24-1304 We at Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) made a Parking Reform Explainer with examples of projects negatively impacted by parking mandates: swenergy.org/wp-content/upl… 1/

A little policy update! Currently, two bills are being considered at the state level that are key to reducing car dependency. 🅿️🏘️🧵👇 1/

Los Angeles: Big win for all nonmotorized life, and for transit too ... Measure HLA passes, requiring that planned pedestrian, bike, bus infrastructure be included whenever streets are rebuilt. yesonhla.com

I hope the success of Yes on Measure HLA inspires advocates everywhere that are tired of dangerous streets built for only one mode of transportation, and want their city to change. Happy to talk to anyone that is thinking of doing something similar where they live.

More devastating news for the anti-science crowd that denies the laws of supply and demand-- this time a Federal Reserve study showing that when you build "luxury" market-rate apartments, lower-income renters benefit. The. hits. just. keep. coming.

118 people will die on our roads today. Where is the outrage? I’ve seen a lot of sensationalism around aviation lately. The fact is our aviation system is the safest in the world and all of us - investigators, regulators, airlines, employees, and manufacturers - are working to

For the same reason, cities should have ordinances on the books that bind them to build the street safety improvements identified in their plans. No more project by project debates over whether they will or won't prioritize safety for all modes.

The Mexican-American community of Palo Verde, before-and-after the government forcibly evicted residents and demolished the neighborhood in the 1950s. The site was then used to build Dodger Stadium—more precisely: the Dodger Stadium parking lot.

We build all this infrastructure for a handful of businesses and then we say things like "there's no infrastructure to support growth" There's so much infrastructure we can't afford to maintain what we have. The problem is that it's the wrong infrastructure.

Brief reminder that the commercial aviation industry actually achieves “vision zero” most years, unlike your city (not talking to you, Hoboken)

This is the biggest occupational hazard if you’re someone who wants to work in government and cares about making good policy. Civil servants work hard for years and apply their expertise only for electeds to ruin it all at the last minute. It’s incredibly discouraging.

Tualatin (pop 28,000) voted to become Oregon's 18th city without costly parking mandates. Council voted 7-0 to repeal them citywide! Join Parking Reform Network & make this happen in your community!
