There are 7 states—CA, OR, WA, NV, MN, MT, AK—that require tipped workers be paid a full #MinimumWage with tips on top. And these 7 states have higher restaurant sales and small business growth rates and job growth rates in the restaurant industry.

These states also have 50% the rate of sexual harassment in the restaurant industry, because when you pay workers—who are predominantly women—a full #MinimumWage, with tips on top, she doesn’t have to put up with as much from customers.

Data shows that tipping in the U.S. is not correlated with quality of service. Rather, it’s correlated with the race, gender and look of the server. A Black woman will always earn $5–$8/hour less in tips, even when she is performing “perfect service,” compared to a white man.
