Louisville will be in the spotlight again next week as ValhallaGolf Club hosts the PGA Championship. John Ballard, CGCS and the team chat about the unique challenges of hosting a major and how important this event is to the Kentucky golf community.

Here’s John Ballard, CGCS talking about having a former ValhallaGolf assistant turned BASF Turf US rep, Gary Myers, CGCS, helping out for the championship and collaborating in trials for Aramax to stop large patch on the course’s zoysia fairways.

Another great moment from my visit to the PGA Championship … finally meeting up with the legendary (and Twitterless) equipment manager Jason Newman. He’s been at ValhallaGolf for decades and has supported every championship they’ve hosted. My fun interview with him is here:

And they're off! Round 1 of the PGA Championship is underway. The ValhallaGroundsCrew team and volunteers are locked in and the course is immaculate as ValhallaGolf hosts the best players in the world. #EveryRoundStartsHere BASF Turf US

It's the little things that help create an environment people want to be a part of. Things like a fun challenge among peers helps build camaraderie and culture. AIT Josh Rippy paid off his fantasy football loss by entertaining the ValhallaGroundsCrew tent prior to night maintenance.

John Ballard, CGCS and his team at Valhalla have created exceptional playing conditions this week and we were proud to support them. See how our latest innovation, Aramax Intrinsic brand fungicide, has helped to protect their new zoysiagrass fairways - youtu.be/DDutiqW1kT0

Excellent large patch control with two fall applications of Pillar SC (1 floz), Pillar (1 floz)/Xzemplar (0.26 floz in spring), Xz (0.26 floz + Maxtima (0.56 floz), and Ascernity (1 floz). Applications made on 9/29/23 and 10/25/23. All treatments performed well! More comments...

When you’re the #GOAT you really should have a plaque on the wall to celebrate it! I’m delighted that the folks from BASF Turf US were kind enough to mount the article we did on John Jeffreys decade at the helm of the famed No. 2 course at Pinehurst Resort. Here’s that piece:

We have begun trying to keep bermuda out of our new greens. BASF Pylex going out on a couple to see the results. The bermuda should turn white soon hopefully leaving the bent untouched. Tough weed and process but hopefully we can at least reduce the growth rate of the bermuda.

A Birds Eye view of our BASF Pylex work on hole 13. The progress year 1 is right on target. Spray warm season turf and then introduce a good cool season blend. Before and after photos are proof.
