The Blue Jays offense has been really poor (6th-fewest runs scored), but they're still making a ton of contact (lowest K% in baseball). Their hard-hit rate is 25th. That's the problem. And it's a good reminder they didn't small-ball their way to the WS last year. They mashed.

Exactly. You can’t blame the training staff for foul balls that randomly hit toes and thumbs, or the kinda random injuries that Ponce and Barger had.

I absolutely lost my mind when this happened. Like, screamed and threw shit around my house kinda lost it. That was one of the best games I’ve ever watched.

imagine saying before the season that, 19 games in, pat corbin would be one of the jays’ 3 most trusted starters, lenyn sosa would be a mid-order bat, the opening-day corner outfielders would have 3 combined hits, & joe mantiply would have played in more games than alejandro kirk

Just to give you a sense of how early it is in the baseball season, the Jays are currently 3 games out of a Wild Card spot with 143 games left to play.

For this reason, I'd be tempted to try Fisher in the 9th inning. Not sure the bullpen improves if you take Varland out of that fireman role. Yes, they have Rogers as well, but he has a totally different approach that doesn't work in every situation, even if he's an elite RP.

My favourite part about this is that Griffey Jr's signature swing looked exactly the same on his last MLB hit. Finishing things off like that for the Mariners was nothing short of poetic. youtube.com/shorts/ZYo3Vtg…
