Islington Council Thank you Rowena Champion @islingtoncouncil and your fellow councillors and officers for trying to have a grownup and respectful conversation tonight re plans for Barnsbury’s liveable neighbourhood. Wasted opportunity to hear from everyone about the best way forward.

Labour has a huge mandate to do this. The question isn’t ‘whether’, it’s ‘how’.

Incredibly, ALL of Islington’s bus routes which were under threat have been saved, notably route 4, which is a lifeline across the borough. Thanks and congratulations to everyone who campaigned so effectively. This a brilliant outcome.

Even drivers of huge Range Rover Discovery Vogues need to stop at red lights. If the driver of sand-coloured SV65 RJJ is your neighbour, perhaps your could remind them. They rushed a red light turning right out of Park St at 18:55 last night, when the pedestrian light was green.

I am immensely proud of what we have already achieved but the climate crisis added to our current public health crises of air pollution and inactivity makes it imperative we transform Islington.

Good news - the consultation on the nee Barnsbury and Laycock liveable neighbourhood has been launched. This will substantially reduce cross-traffic on neighbourhood roads - including ending Islington Park Street’s role as a mini-motorway. It’s a about time!

A whole host of #RedLightJumpers exiting Islington Park Street onto Canonbury Lane this afternoon. The good news is that Park Street will be entirely shut to through traffic in tne near future. Can’t come a minute too soon.
