We were very honoured to be able to join a fascinating walk in the woods earlier this month, with the knowledgeable and inspirational fern experts from Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Edinburgh, Dr Mary Gibby and Dr Heather McHaffie. 🙏💚🌱

Tomato variety Rosella with dark purple skin is very tasty eaten straight from the vine with home grown lettuce . You can taste it in our Roasted tomato soup and fresh salads at our Kitchen café. Open 10am-4pm (last entry 3.30pm) Wednesday -Sunday until the end September. 💚🌱

Ricinis communis or Caster oil plant grows well in the seasonal planting under the south wall of the walled garden with Salvia ‘Amistad’, Erysimum ‘Bowles Mauve’ and Agapanthus ‘Headbourne hybrids’.

The Rock and gravel garden beside the Backhouse Kitchen is looking fantastic, thanks to the kind attentions of our brilliant garden volunteers.💚🌱🌸

Cynara cardunculus, flowers are only just beginning to emerge. Autumnal herbaceous borders are the stars of the gardens now, including Crocosmia Lucifer and Solidago in the background which would take over if we let it! We are open Wed-Sun, 10am-3pm, until end Sept

This red squirrel grew up with its 3 siblings beside the walled garden. Last year we watched the Mum carrying her tiny babies in her mouth through the trees to a safe place in the tall trees growing behind the south facing wall. We are very fond of them!
