Part of my job as office manager is to keep supplies stocked up. People in this office drink a ridiculous amount of coffee which takes a chunk out the budget as Nescafé is now about £6 a jar. Recently switched it with £1.25 coffee from Aldi and nobody's noticed the difference.

- Sometimes the information you do have which can make this much scarier is the simple matter of 'Where's my backup?' You might be racing to this call knowing you have a dozen colleagues right behind you - or that, for now, you're on your own.

- Meanwhile, information continues to drip through. Some of it will be wrong. Some of it unhelpful. Some makes the situation even more terrifying than you first thought.
- Your mind races through every possible eventuality and formulates plans for how you'll act on arrival.

- As you bust a gut to get there, you know that members of the public around you will have no clue why you're going full-speed down the road or screeching round corners or shouting at them to get out of the way. And you know some of them will be judging you for it.

- The information you do get is often terrifying. It's highly likely the only info those police officers were told over the radio today was 'Man with sword attacking people'
- You go. No questions. You do whatever you can to get there. You want to stop more people being hurt.

A few observations from someone who used to respond to incidents like the one we saw today and whose job is now to scrutinise them and report on them in the cold light of day:
- No matter how much information you get when the calls first come in, it's never the full picture
