Nicole Holyoake Team English Teachers Talk English I wrote this wwaaayyy back when I first made the shift to predominantly visualiser based teaching. It could definitely do with an update though. IPEVO visualisers are superb and the software is brilliant too. wp.me/p5CCAz-83

I think stepping learning is so important. KS3 is about setting really good foundations. Deliberate practice with smaller component parts. Even finding quotations in a text is loaded - does it really support the point? Using speech marks instead of quotation marks etc etc.

Last week, I was lucky enough to be invited to visit Oasis Academy South Bank by Josie Sacks and Bridie McPherson to see their English department in action. We left feeling so grateful for the team’s generosity & incredibly enthused by the fab practice we saw. Highlights attached:

In case you need to hear this today: please be kind to yourself. This job is relentless and, for all the moments of joy, it can be seriously tough. You are a person before you’re a teacher and you deserve to be both happy and healthy.

One of our principles is responsibility. This is the canteen after break and how students left it. It’s really important to us that we take responsibility for our environment because this is where we thrive together as a community 🩵 Well done Co-op Academy Belle Vue 👏👏👏

🌟Creative writing: sentence models🌟 Resources in the 🧵 I've been doing lots of sentence work. Last term, I tried to write with students every lesson, just trying to build writing muscles and expose them to lots of models Inspired by Chris Youles His book is fab! 1/11

Last week I gave my annual ‘you need to focus now’ Y11 nag/lecture to both my Y11 classes. It goes something like this….

I think these types of teaching clips are super helpful. Like the Pritesh Raichura example, they offer an insight into other (often high-performing) environments that teachers and leaders can, and should, learn from. Would be cool to see more!

🌟Students need a sentence structure to show their understanding that big ideas are connected to little moments.🌟🧵 I talk a lot about micro and macro. Everything we read and write moves between big & small; small & big. Being able to access the big idea is important. 1/10
