The best part of this fic is that you don’t have to have read Hench first… but if the person I send it to likes it, I can then convince them to put Hench at the top of their TBR pile.

My thoughts on the YA/adult book classification debate: this is why full time school librarians are so important. They get to know kids, and what they can handle, and can make buying decisions for their specific population needs.

Here are some other things I’d want a new-to-research teacher to check out. (I’ll keep this to short, free stuff that is super accessible, so no books.) I already shared 1, so we’ll start from there…🧵

We can't read, cite, or write our way out of systems of oppression, domination, and exploitation (i.e., coloniality). However, refusing to denounce them in the academic space in which participate equates to complicity. Silence also maintains power.

As a language learner, I think the reason research can’t find a clear winner in the inductive/deductive debate is because it’s a false dichotomy. My brain needs examples, and a brief explanation, and more examples. WHEN to get the explanation? Varies by learner, and by the rule.

If the unsanitized King were here today many of yall would be uncomfortable in a room w/him So before you send that tweet, ask yourself can you honor a legacy you won't acknowledge? 1 that critiques evils of capitalism + militarism? That indicts white moderation + corporatism?

"The language itself sort of acts like I don't exist, so it's really hard to feel good about being in that class." - a non-binary high school student learning French. Teachers, we need to explicitly support our non-binary students by teaching strategies for inclusive language.

I’m a teacher in a film. I sit on my chair the wrong way to show kids that I’m different from their other, uncool, teachers. I always finish class by yelling out the pages to read for tomorrow as the bell rings. I’m probably going to show up at a student’s home out of the blue.

“Misogyny is not about male hostility or hatred toward women — instead, it’s about controlling and punishing women who challenge male dominance. Misogyny rewards women who reinforce the status quo and punishes those who don’t.”

This study showed that when at-risk readers in Gr.1 FRENCH IMMERSION were provided with support, they made significant reading gains in French. Next steps? Reduce the number of at-risk readers by providing Structured Literacy instruction in Kindergarten. researchgate.net/publication/28…

At Auschwitz we see the end of the process, but the Holocaust did not start from gas chambers & murder. The hatred developed from marking a victim who could not escape its fate, from ideology & words, through legal exclusion, violence & dehumanization. Auschwitz took time.

New blog post on using charades in the language classroom. I have lots of fun adaptations (obstacles! dice with verbs! tournaments!) to make this fun game new again for students as well. #LanguageLearning #improvgames lessonimpossible.com/blog/charades
