Birds active in daytime raise the lower lid when closing their eye .. nocturnal birds close the upper lid. There is also a translucent 'nictitating membrane' or 'third eyelid'. This closes across the eye horizontally from front to back. Used to moisten, clean and protect the eye.

#POTUS Since my last tweet, and people tell me it was the greatest tweet ever, they do say that, Collared Doves have expanded from the USA into Canada, Alaska, Mexico, Belize and Costa Rica. Seriously folks they are great dispersers and have been recorded in all these places.

The British Trust for Ornithology BTO states that food in a Woodpigeon’s crop can weigh over 70g .. weights up to 155g have been recorded. Examples of crop content include 725 ivy berries, 758 wheat grains, 30 cherries, and 38 acorns. 38 acorns! #what_the_actual_fuck

The White-winged Dove of the Americas can feed on cactus fruits, and take nectar from cactus flowers. These doves are major pollinators of the iconic Saguaro cactus. The Saguaro blossom is the state wildflower of Arizona.
