Autistics: Do you find that, while your employer seems agreeable to accommodations, these are never consistent or followed through. Clear communication and clear deadlines as one example. Then you feel like a burden when you have to remind. Very tiring.

[Content note: ableism, neglect, mention of restraint]
This was upsetting to watch but nowhere near as upsetting as it would be on the receiving end of these words. If you work in health & social care, please watch. Most of us have heard stuff like this, it needs to be challenged

‘Your son is an expense to the public purse’ - if you are a health or care professional and you treat people with disabilities in this way, then you should maybe (urgently) be rethinking your career.
Shameful stuff - & actual discrimination.

Aside from the awfulness of PIP, worst I can remember was a Social Worker who came to start assessment process with us.
Asked about respite, in front of my husband said ‘we’d put him in a home’.
Assessment process ended that day, social work not allowed anywhere near us again.

“We’ve been using mechanical restraint on your son to stop staff hurting their backs”

Why does this sound all to familiar 💔

When a social worker, during another god awful assessment in our home, pointed at my husband and said, ‘can’t he do it’?

He works full time. Is it not enough that one of us gave up a thriving business and career to become a full time carer to our children?

I raised allegations in regards breaches of child protection & safeguarding for use of restraint and seclusion.

They threatened me with social services, stating I was a 'grieving single mother' who was misunderstanding therapeutic interventions.

An investigation proved my case.

ellie middleton 🌻 “Let’s ask an Autistic person to speak about their experience last minute and trigger a meltdown because of the sudden change but as long as we look semi interested in the subjects that’s all that matters” ITV News Would you firstly like to LEARN about autism?

And I don't think we would be having this issue if psychologists and psychiatrists hadn't gotten a number of things wrong along the way including denying the co-existence of ADHD and autism, overlooking women and gender minorities, Black neurodivergent people, and others

People are not obsessed with diagnosed, they are being failed and requesting support. The pathologization of those seeking support is both bizarre and uncalled for. Neurodivergent people aren't the problem, we need a radical overhaul of systems.

Diagnosis is the only way to get the proper support like medication and therapy.
Diagnosis helps people accept themselves for who they are.

The reason why there's a surge of people wanting a diagnosis is because there's more awareness about it now.

It's a need not a demand!

BBC Radio 4 Today Mishal Husain It really scares me that the platform is given to 'experts' who don't even grasp the distinction between basic terms in this discourse. Neurodiverse and neurodivergent aren't interchangeable.

Guardian news 'Unpredicted' rise in demand - seriously??? Perhaps involve people who have a bit more understanding of the area then?

My friends Childs schools were an active barrier to getting a diagnosis. SARs showed ‘mum
Is attention seeking and imagining things in xxx’ 14 years child was under ‘observations’. CAMHs believed school. At 16 child has just got dx through RTC. Stay in your lane!! 💔
