I've been an indie author for a decade now. I've been fortunate enough to have been full time since 2018 and have sold lots of books. Some thoughts and strategies for my first ten years. Long thread incoming:

Are you even a writer if you don’t have 20 half started manuscripts and a story you’ve been avoiding writing for months?

Writers returning to their WIP after a month and seeing that it’s not finished:

Are you even a writer if you haven’t spent half a year avoiding writing the story you daydream about every day?

Do I know what to write? Yes Am I capable of writing? Yes Do I have time to write? Yes Would my day be 10000% better if I wrote? Yes Am I going to write? No Am I going to have anxiety all day because I'm not published yet and I don't know why? Absolutely

No, you're not a bad writer. Writing is incredibly difficult, and most people give up. But you're still here. You're still putting words on the page, and that is proof you will be an amazing writer one day.

If you feel like giving up on writing, do yourself a favor and take a step back. Forget about publishing for a minute, and write a story for yourself. Write a story that no one else may ever read, but that you love. Write what makes you happy, because that's what writing is about
