Officer Training School was out today, having a look at the F-35A Lightning II in the pits! The candidates were also able to have a chat with an operational pilot to fully understand and ask questions about the role they are being trained into. #AirForceAccomplished 📸: CPL Rye

A great plume of smoke appeared over the horizon this afternoon at RAAF Base Williamtown. To assist local authorities, the Lightning II utilised it's situational awareness abilities and made a critical analysis of the fire which was invaluable to fire services. #AnytimeAnywhere

It’s the end of a Classic era for our air combat capability. 🛬 Our F/A-18A/B Classic Hornets are retiring from service this week, as we transition to the fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II.

A reform! RAAF has closed down to allow for No.1SQN to take its place! This will permit all our efforts and manpower to be focused on one squadron and the development of such!

No.1SQN has been transferred to RAAF Base Williamtown to train more closely with No.4SQN and 1CCS. The Hornet's nest reawakens!

No.1SQN Pilots have been issued their own coloured flashes! Pilots are now permitted more customisation of their aircraft. AussieDelta and his WSO, Sauce was debuting their gold fin at todays sortie.

No.1SQN played a vital role today as a No.33SQN KC-30A lost communications with ground. No.1SQN intercepted and was able to establish communications with the KC-30A aircraft, guiding it back to RAAF Williamtown safely. Investigations are underway as to why this fault occurred.

No.1SQN aircraft today practiced once more in surrounding area of Newcastle, taking advantage of some beautiful terrain near RAAF Base Williamtown. Residents were both shocked and pleased as RAAF F/A-18F Super Hornets rocketed through the hills!

Disaster Strikes! During a routine sortie, one F/A-18F was reported to have a puncture in one of it's tires, resulting in a need to perform a belly landing, with the assistance of an arresting wire, installed at RAAF Base Williamtown. Thankfully, the crew is unharmed.

New trainee's were out this week, conducting their first solo flights in the F/A-18F Super Hornet! So proud to see the progression of personnel as we draw nearer and nearer to operational readiness!

A great display today at Williamtown! Hellcat flight performing it's first formation flight in a three-ship of F/A-18F Super Hornet Aircraft! Two of the trainee pilots and their backseaters were up with the newly appointed Flight Commander for their debut flight!

We welcome 816SQN, Royal Australian Navy to RAAF Base Williamtown to operate alongside No.1SQN for search and rescue, reconnaissance and maritime warfare operations. We hope this will greatly strength ties within the community and breathe new life into both groups!

The Combined Ranks Messhall was opened today by GPCAPT O. Schrodinger at a opening ceremony. Once the red ribbon was cut, personnel were permitted meals in the Officer's and Sergeant's mess, as a one off occasion to celebrate the grand opening.
