Our 2nd graders have a lot to teach us...When asked, "What makes people unique & interesting?" They said: "Their culture, names, skin color, what they like, where they come from, their thoughts, opinions, interests, hair color, favorite things, how they speak..." Hortons Creek ES
This is what our 2nd graders said when asked what makes them special: "I'm creative-I look at things a different way..."; "I do a lot of exercise: walk, yoga, bike..."; "I'm helpful b/c I can wash dishes & sweep"; "I'm funny"; "I am Indian"; "I collect minerals"; Hortons Creek ES
Here is an idea for your mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving Holiday from one of our 2nd grade creative chef--"mash potatoes with peaches with blue cheese and bacon bits and craisins." Hortons Creek ES Hortons Creek 2nd
I was glad to read that my students were enjoying asynchronous day today. My students wrote, "I like this." "Yeah this is the best. I love a sinkerness day." "Me 3rd." "Me too", "You should have said me four instead of me too." Hortons Creek ES Hortons Creek 2nd
I love when my students encourage others with kind words: "I like how you help others up when they fall down." "I like how you can show lots of character traits (referring to Positivity 2 Traits)." "You are a very good friend to everyone." Hortons Creek 2nd Hortons Creek ES @posproject
I like seeing students thinking deeply. When asked, "Would you sort items by states of matter in a grocery aisle?" A student replied, "No, because then if you want chips and cheese dip you have to go to one area and then another." Hortons Creek ES Hortons Creek 2nd
On kindness...Students shared, "From a scale from 1 to 10, you are 11...I like how you use detailed words in math...I like how you think but if you did not know what to say then you don't stop thinking. You keep thinking then you have an idea." Hortons Creek ES The Positivity Project
Amazing how words of appreciation can give you extra energy...Today I heard from my student that "One afternoon is too long for the next day of school." Hearing these words made me excited to show up to my Virtual Classroom tomorrow, even for that one student. Hortons Creek ES
Today in our PLC, we talked about how "Geniuses ask questions. They don't know the answers...their curiosity takes them into their fields..." When talking about the scientific method w/ my students, I was so impressed with how many good questions my students had! Hortons Creek ES
I love when my students take initiative for their own learning. Just about half of my class stayed behind to learn how to create presentation slides for their own investigation related to the scientific method. They take pride in their work & want to share. Hortons Creek ES
I was so thrilled to see this morning that my student who says that even one day is too long to wait for the next school day, improved the most in reading, according to iStation. I was surprised to see he even participated on Spelling Bee! Hortons Creek ES Hortons Creek 2nd
My students gave me a goal for Prudence Week. I forget to unmute myself after I show a video sometimes. They said that that could be my goal, Mrs. Chang. I love when they apply what they are learning and help others learn it too! Hortons Creek ES The Positivity Project
I always look forward to reading Positivity Project's Character Traits definitions, especially "humility." "You do not seek the spotlight. You let your actions speak for themselves...a quiet confidence in who you are." Hortons Creek ES The Positivity Project
This is an Alma Woodsey Taylor-inspired art from my student. I love the bright colors and the patterns she used. Most of all, Alma W. Taylor inspired us to be creative and appreciate the beauty all around us. Hortons Creek ES
Today I showed a clip of the amazing Perseverance arriving on Mars to my students, as Alma Woodsey Taylor was inspired by the landing on the Moon for some of her art. One of my students said that he now knows what he wants to do in life--work at NASA. Hortons Creek ES Hortons Creek 2nd
My students like to share topics they are interested in when school is done. One of them shared about the building blocks of protein. I love how she was using words like RNA, codons, factory of proteins. One was commenting, "I don't know what to say. It's so cool."Hortons Creek ES
When my students were asked what they should celebrate to highlight P2 Enthusiasm trait, some said, "School!" So, yes! Let's celebrate schools & their teachers--for helping students "know themselves, their beauty, brilliance, and genius." (G. Muhammad) Hortons Creek ES The Positivity Project
It's so good to hear that students have missed school over the Spring break...One of mine said, "Good morning everyone I hope everyone is great so far, I reeeeeeeeaaaaaaly missed you guys from spring break. I am sooooooooooooooooooo excited for today's class..." Hortons Creek ES
