'The U.S. House of Representatives passed an alarming bill last week to allow the government to conscript Chicago businesses to spy on their customers, employees and everyone they communicate with, from relatives to journalists.'

Nikil showing up in solidarity for actions like this is why I just donated to his campaign -- and why you should too!

Beef & dairy vets tried to pretend cows dont have bird flu to keep us calm & buying cheeseburgers, which is, to put it mildly, one of the wildest things Ive seen on this beat. Wrote a newsletter on that & the infectious disease time bomb of factory farming

I love you Jane. Thank you for teaching so many of us about being relentless and righteous, and leading by example: strategic, brilliant, honest, critical, loving, dogged, fun. This is awful. We need you. We’ll keep learning from you.

Will keep repeating this: Activists buy and cancel medical debt (for pennies on the dollar) to politicize a broken system and as an act of abolitionist mutual aid. We don't need the state—which has more tools at its disposal—to merely mimic our tactics. We need free healthcare.

Infinite love and solidarity for the person who has done more than any other to impact how I understand political struggle and the possibility for change. Now do as Jane McAlevey would do and go out there to fight for workers and our beautiful planet and peace and justice everywhere ❤️‍🩹

I know it seems obvious, but in today's day I really think everything has to be clearly spelled out, and for some reason it is not mentioned in this article—but Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi are the Blackest states in the U.S.

Loving this The Washington Post interview with Leah Hunt-Hendrix and Astra Taylor on SOLIDARITY, especially the way the discussion turns from politics to religion--but not how you might expect. washingtonpost.com/books/2024/04/…

From me: It's Tax Day, and it still hasn't sunk in that the presidential election is going to decide the tax and fiscal policy trajectory for 330 million Americans, & the gap between the two leading candidates is $6 trillion, imposed entirely on the rich.

Thanks to everyone who listened to & shared the short clip from the 2024 Spelman Founders Day address. In case you'd like to hear the full 15min talk, here's a captioned version. The spicy section that's circulating is towards the end: bit.ly/RuhaSpelmanTalk

The terms of student loans are that they can also be cancelled at the discretion of the federal government—they aren't designed to be paid back in full either. And Republicans *are* attacking PSLF. Hope this helps.

This reaction from a conservative prof, to Jodi's suspension from teaching, is principled and a good example for all of us working in academia on how to stick up for each other:
