There’s quite a few CS topics where reading a good book is the best way to learn. Henessey and Patterson for COA, OSTEP for OS, The Dragon book for Compilers, CLRS for DSA etc. Don’t know why reading went out of fashion. Reading a book is faster than any video/MOOC.

I just won an internal Hackathon at my company by writing 2 shell scripts lol. In a hackathon, always optimize for impact over sophistication and technology.

With the advent of GenAI, the 24-hour hackathon might soon become a thing of the past. Replaced by shorter “Hack-days”. I feel that this would be a net negative, so I blogged about it : blog.pointblank.club/the-24-hour-ha… #Hackathon #Hack #Build

Hackathons are as useful to Software Engineering as Model United Nations (MUNs) are to preventing Global conflict and war. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do them, but you can’t live in the delusion that they make you a good engineer. Akash Singh can win hackathons at will lol.
