Being for the acceptance of tough feelings, is not being anti-happiness. Accepting tough emotions enables us to deal with the world as it is (not as we wish it to be), and it is this, that allows us to then make meaningful change.

People constantly ask me what I do now. Most people where I live haven’t heard of ABA or BCBAs! I just heard a great quote to describe one part of what we do: “We teach skills that render problem behavior unnecessary.” Matt Cicoria #aba ❤️

Our brains are designed to solve problems. But we simply cannot "solve" emotions in the same way that we would a math problem. We need other skills for our emotional world. Skills like mindfulness and compassion.

On my way home tonight the person driving the snowplow truck saw I was struggling while trying to drive in the snow. He waited for me at the top of each hill to make sure I made it. On the last hill he stopped to see how much further I had to go. He didn’t know anything about me.
