What’s actually disturbing is the feature of the Roberts Court to accept lavish gifts from billionaires, hide that fact, & then rule in their favor.

It would be an insult to democracy to respect this conduct. Legitimacy is not a birthright - it is earned. They are destroying it

This is a particularly depraved argument for AI art because it misunderstands the reason why people value art in the first place

humans enjoy art not because it espouses a superior technical understanding of our world but rather because it conveys the artist’s singular humanity

I go outside and am crushed by the heat. And then I am reminded that many Texas prisons do not have AC, and that this year the legislature declined to pass the funding to instal them. Prisoners have died in the heat.

.hyperallergic doesn't get enough cred from media people for being an independent, small-scale, totally sustainable publication that runs on high-quality display ads and no-paywall memberships. The model works if you stay small and serve your readers.

Disagree. 95% isn’t expensive enough. Art costs a lot in materials and time and those costs are rarely covered - even when the price seems high. The remaining 5% (or whatever the percentage is that makes up the blue chip market) is too expensive.
