A sweet little hand embroidered drawstring purse, started during a recent group workshop and gifted to her aunt by Carousel artist Sue Kibby. I wonder what treasures will be kept in it? #handembroidery #embroidery #stitchedart #stitchedartisart #velvet #velvetbag #gift

A glimpse into the working practice of Carousel artist Brenda Parsons. Using reference photos, in this case of the Dartmoor landscape and geology, she builds up a collage and translates this into a sketch before moving into fabric and stitch or stitching directly into the paper.

Above, below and through the surface is the personal theme of Carousel artist Ruth Darby for our next exhibition. This new piece explores the idea of grave goods - what would you want placed in yours? #throughthesurface #newwork #gravegoods #textileart #foundobjects #mixedmedia

Without a permanent meeting venue it's a long time since we have been able to get together for a workshop and a good catchup, so it was lovely to meet yesterday near Waterloo to learn about Marilyn's contemporary take on stumpwork. #gettogether #catchup #workshop #textileartgroup

Super results from collagraph prints on fabric by Carousel artist Frances Arnold. A perfect technique for our exhibition theme of Through the Surface!

Today in Willesden Gallery you can meet Carousel artist Frances Arnold. As well as working with textiles, Frances is an accomplished stained glass artist and her work for this exhibition combines these two materials. #textiles #glass #contemporaryart #exhibition #willesdengreen

These three women are clearly associates in an early 20th century lady’s detective agency, on their way to carry out some stylish sleuthing. What would the name of the agency be I wonder? I am certain they are not to be messed with and will not stand for any nonsense The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Sallie Hathaway was just 12 years old when she stitched this beautiful needlework picture. An expression of identity and taste, needlework arts give us rare material glimpses into the lives of some early American girls' lives. #WomensHistoryMonth

Today in the gallery it is the turn of Marilyn Williams, who was inspired by plant samples viewed through a microscope to make these deliciously textural, colourful pieces. The exhibition continues until Saturday 11th March and we would love to see you there. #sciart #textileart

Blast from the past! This article was written not long after we formed as a group and put on our first exhibition. We've come a long way in another 5 years!

Carousel artists met at the fabulous Morley College, in London. Several of us like to maintain that connection by taking short courses to expand and hone our skills. This spectacular manipulated fabric collar was made by Julieta Gimpel on one such course recently.
