The Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, is a Biosphere Reserve in the Caribbean, it shares with the insular Caribbean a living history, an Afro-descendant maritime culture, and a common challenge: to protect the sea as a territory of life.

We call on CARICOM and the world to support Raizal artisanal fishing as a living heritage of the insular Caribbean. food sovereignty, and biocultural governance from the islands.

Las cifras oficiales de pobreza del DANE (Colombia) para el Archipiélago de San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina, no reflejan con precisión la realidad del pueblo raizal. Todos revueltos!!!

Según la encuesta del DANE, de calidad de vida 2022, solo el 3,7% de los hogares del archipiélago experimentó inseguridad alimentaria severa (vs. 4,9% nacional), y el 17,2% tuvo inseguridad alimentaria moderada o grave . No sabemos cuánto de esos hogares son raizales!!

La Ley 2471 de 2025 representa un hito en el reconocimiento formal de la identidad cultural y lingüística del pueblo raizal dentro del sistema educativo colombiano. Al establecer la Cátedra de la Afroraizalidad como parte obligatoria del Proyecto Educativo Institucional.

Su impacto dependerá de la implementación efectiva, con recursos, formación docente y materiales propios que no reduzcan la cátedra a un simple componente formal del currículo, sino que la conviertan en un eje vivo de identidad y cohesión social.

The Chair of Afroraizalidad as a mandatory part of the Institutional Educational Project in the Archipelago it not only institutionalizes the teaching of Raizal history, traditions, and the Creole language, but also strengthens the right to an education with cultural relevance.
