It's incredible that AWS still maintains SimpleDB instead of killing it and losing customer trust. I think AWS' secret weapon is how cheap it is for them to just keep the lights on when they need to.

SimpleDB was launched 16 years ago. 11 years ago Amazon launched DynamoDB which has since replaced SimpleDB in use cases. But AWS has not deprecated SimpleDB: so customers using it were not forced to spend large amounts of money & time to migrate. This is why many choose AWS.
