and here is the really simple placeholder forest village generator running in the testbed. i'm so glad i decided to make this steppable generator with all the visual feedback. it's helped in making it not be a black box, and i'd consider it to be an important part of the project

genres have murky origins. two years before 'rogue' there was 'beneath apple manor'. interestingly, it has more organic level generation than rogue. i'd love to know how this algorithm works! we can learn both from the history we hear about and the history we don't.
