This is an astonishing graphic, demonstrating the huge impact HIV treatment has had in preventing AIDS and deaths since 1996 - a scientific medical success that deserves celebration. Note though that more people died of AIDS related illness last year (630k) than in 1990. 1/2

Note also that the decline in AIDS related deaths has started to level out. The goal of fewer than 250k AIDS deaths by 2025 appears to be out of reach - as does the goal of zero deaths by 2030 on this trajectory. Celebrate the success but question why not all are saved. 2/2
