‘When it costs money to be open, there’s no point.’ Tough decisions having to be made by pubs up and down the country after the 1st April tax raid on pubs. No longer can we just open to pay HMRC!

Bloody hell, we don’t need to be open LATER! We can’t afford to staff the hours we are open now. If this is the solution proposed to save hospitality then I’m afraid that we are rather royally f&@ked. Please don’t tell me you had these people round a table this is what you asked?

British Steel, losing £700k a day, employs 2,700 people. Gov jumping in to save the day and land the tax payer with the cost of employing 2,700 people at £700k a day, bailing out the overseas owner. UK hospitality employs over 1m, and Gov is willfully taxing it into extinction.

Just a reminder that £2 of every £10 you spend in hospitality goes straight to HMRC that’s before the venue has paid for the product, the staff to serve it, the rent on the venues to serve it in, the gas/ electricity to cook it…it’s endless. #CUTVAT

“The NICs change was socially regressive and had a disproportionate effect on entry level jobs," Kate Nicholls OBE told the The Telegraph. 69,000 hospitality jobs were lost following last year's Budget. We need the Government to fix NICs to boost jobs. #TaxedOut telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/…

The utter refusal to change course, reverse the damage caused, or mitigate with things like a VAT reduction has been galling, particularly in the face of constant Government claims of being business friendly. morningadvertiser.co.uk/Article/2025/0…

To be clear and for the avoidance of doubt The budget of Rachel Reeves has a massively detrimental effect on hospitality Why she has chosen to do this is on her but for the love of all that's holy will The Labour Party listen to UKHospitality and change course at the next budget

“Overnight it’s pushed many businesses from being viable, dynamic and vibrant to being unviable and fearful for their future.” Our Chair Kate Nicholls OBE spoke to the The Telegraph about the impact of increased employer NICs on the sector. #TaxedOut telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/…

Our member Phil Thorley (Thorley Taverns) spoke to The Telegraph about the impact of last year's Budget, calling it "the worst Budget" he's seen in his 40 years of running a pub. We need the Gov't to lower business rates, fix NICs and cut VAT. #TaxedOut telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/…

Really busy Weekend trade collecting Taxes for the UK 🇬🇧 government. I worked long hours, they didn’t pay me anything & not even a Thankyou or a well-done from them as my employer. Perhaps I’ll get their July ‘Employee of The Month’ award. Wet pubs are being #taxedout #ourpubs
