Human beings may be complex creatures, but when it comes to having our needs met at work, we drastically overcomplicate this. To fundamentally improve employee wellbeing three core needs to be present at work: Enough money, a manageable workload, and supportive leadership. Agree?

When it comes to hiring, I will die on this hill: With the right foundational skills, you can teach a person how to do tasks for a job. You cannot teach someone how to be a good person and a delight to work with.

Never become a leader to lead. Become a leader to create change, to solve problems, to improve lives, to develop people, to create positive impact, to challenge inequalities, to fight against injustice, to upset the status quo. But never just to lead.

Urging people to be positive doesnโ€™t boost their resilience. It denies their reality. When times are tough, we donโ€™t need good vibes only. We need a hand to keep us steady through all the vibrations. Strength doesnโ€™t come from forced smiles. It comes from feeling supported.

A very thought provoking & enjoyable day alongside other agencies at the Trauma Informed Approach workshop led by Lancashire Violence Reduction Network Dr Warren Larkin. An interest both personally & professionally for me as stats show 50-70% of people will experience a trauma at some point in their life.

I donโ€™t want tax cuts. I want the ambulance to arrive. I want good schools, public transport and town centres. I want investment in jobs, education and people. An extra tenner a week is no good to me when society is falling to bits.

Recently I talked to a young person who told me about starting secondary school. We were lined up, she said, and our uniform was inspected. I had never been in trouble at primary school but they said my shoes were wrong. There was a coloured stitch around the heel. She got a

My Y5/6 class had to write their address for an activity today. Mind absolutely blown. Some put their phone number, some their postcode. Some started with the country. One child thought the whole road was called the number of her house. Letโ€™s scale this curriculum down shall we?

These sheets are my non-negotiable in the first lesson! I've lost count of the number of times this sheet has given me key insights into pupils and helped me support other teachers with key students. Massive help for building valuable relationships with students.
