Finding your own marginalia note in a library book from about 5 years ago (along side those of at least 3 or 4 other readers - it's in pencil don't judge me!). #doingearlymodernhistoryearlymodernstyle 😊

I don't always open #academicspam but the conspiracy theory stuff always provides a chuckle. While the British upper class's penchant for fascism is more… instagram.com/p/BuZRsSent49T…

Given the extent of the use of "historic" today, we are unashamedly and legitimately jumping on the #BlackHolePicture bandwagon. Congratulations Dr. Bouman!

#ConfrontingDisinformation @IanHanomansingh excellent questions but you are giving more speaking time to Christopher and David, Sue is there on stage too! #femalevoices

I'm seeing a lot of UK scholars rightly worried about May's plan to remove EU students' home fee status and suggesting that this will be an intellectual detriment to UK research because they will no longer attrqct the 'best and brightest'. I am a UK-Canada dual national and I /1

Paid international fees due to my lack of residency. I know first hand how expensive it is, and my citizenship did free me from the exorbent Tier 4 visa business, nor the draconian criteria to stay in the UK post-degree. It sucks. But where was this critique for students from /2

Other countries like me? Former colonies, especially non-white dominions, do not enjoy home fees, which could arguable be used in decolonisation and reconciliation. Where is the concern for the best and brightest outside the EU, especially from developing countries? This is /3

Absolutely a xenophobic policy. I am furious for it. But it's hella Eurocentric to not to discuss that intl students come from everywhere, and not to interrogate (western) academia's shake down of international students for $, when gov'ts give less and less to HE.

COVID-19 and the troubles we now face and what has led us here makes this early modernist want to go full Renaissance in the face of it and re-write the Decameron for our times. If we must isolate let us create. Let us tell stories. I need 9 other co-authors, who is with me?

Many thanks to Peter Marshall for writing a book that is the perfect size for a yoga block substitute for the early modernist yogis out there Renaissance Studies #quarantine

My daily commute of swearing under my breath at fellow cyclists has been replaced with a 10 minute IT struggle of me swearing loudly at myself to turn my dining table into my work station #WorkFromHomeLife

Academics - if you are in the position to hire students to do things like transcribe, take notes, etc please do so. COVID-19 is amplifying the precarity of postgrads like 4th years, and intl students who can't work or have had valuable side gigs like invigilation cancelled.

Working from home sucks. Working from home with a musical theatre major neighbour who refuses to adjust the key to Josh Groban's You Raise Me Up and keeps butchering the high notes sucks more.

I just argued for 40 minutes with my father about the efficacy of greywater recycling systems in municipalities, how did YOU spend your Sunday? At least it was something to talk about other than covid...

Wolf's comments re: 'obscure parts of the world' ignores 1) the role research plays in global citizenship & responsibility (i.e. vax development) and 2) that many Britons have connections to these places as immigrants. /1 timeshighereducation.com/news/focus-loc… via Times Higher Education

The Tories seem to be only interested in a global Britain that existed 120 years ago, not the contemporary one where we have responsibility for the consequences of empire and industrialisation. If you want to 'level up', yes support local economies...but lose the insularity.
