Effective teachers don't focus so much on rules, but more on relationships, routines, & expectations. If you focus mainly on rules, you will spend most of the year enforcing them. But if you focus on relationships, routines, & expectations, you rarely have to defer back to rules.

Friendly back to school reminder: When kids show up late for school, they still showed up. Thank them, not scold them. “I’m happy you’re here" goes a very long way.

Yes we are understaffed at the elementary I work at but we have worked hard to put some teams in place to provide support. I am optimistic that although there will be hard things this year it will still be a good year. #weareEastSac

Last year I made it a goal to identify one thing I appreciated about each student within the first three weeks. I wrote them all down on sticky notes and handed them out at the end of the three weeks. It took surprisingly little time and helped show kids that I really saw them.

Today was a hard day in my preschool room. I had one child who was having big struggles that took all my attention. At the end of the day another student came to me and said,”I missed you”. But she understood her classmate needed me more.
