As a non-virologist, here are some things I have learned about covid that I would not have guessed before the pandemic. They are super counter-intuitive:

Deputy Jayme Williams was in the ICU for nearly two weeks battling the virus. He is survived by his wife and three kids. kare11.com/article/news/h…

Why you should bother getting vaccinated if it won’t prevent you from catching omicron? Because vaccines also elicit robust T cell responses that do recognize omicron. These same T cells mitigate disease severity. They will keep you out of the hospital and out of the morgue.

Does anyone know what is goin on with Omicron on MN? Latest MDH weekly update seems to show a very low share so far. I read mnhealth has stated that 50% of cases are Omicron, but have only seen that reported in one place. Michael Osterholm CIDRAP bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news…

I'm currently reading my 5th or 6th article today that includes in it some form of looking back on the pandemic and its lessons. *Every* *single* *one* includes a variation of one or more of the following from scientists, public health agency heads, journalists, etc.: 1/x

I want to go on record as saying that the US News and World Report Hospital rankings are a worthless waste of everyone's time

STRONGLY HELD OPINION ALERT Arguing about whether or not we should be using the term provider is inane and pedantic If you care for patients I am on your team

A thread about our depraved healthcare system, and a plea. In 2021, my friend Carole was diagnosed with terminal stage four cancer. A single parent with two kids, she had just turned 43. In 2017, she had watched her brother Chris die of the same cancer. He too was in his 40s.

Had a peer to peer scheduled with UnitedHealthcare as they denied a medication for my patient. I explained what clinical trials have shown, guidelines, and expert medical opinion. Doc then responded that she can’t override the denial due to “plan policy.” 1/5
