Curious to hear Shabana Mahmood MP speak on reinstating the rule of law and criticising #LegalAid changes - the cuts that made the courts much less accessible to disadvantaged people. We need to rebuild our #justice system, and civil legal aid is a necessary part of it!

Today's #RentersReformBill debate shows just why we, and many other groups working with renters, no longer support it. MPs' many concerns left unaddressed. Gov't pushing yet more late amendments to favour landlords. Right now, the Bill's not worthy of its name!

The five-year-old promise of the Renters (Reform) Bill is now broken. It was broken not today but when the gov't repeatedly watered down the Bill's renter protections. The Bill we've just lost was not the Bill we'd been promised anyway. I hope the next gov't shows more integrity!

The weakening of people's trust in the rule of law - indeed, of the rule of law itself - does not come out of nowhere. Policymakers have become too chill about creating a system allowing 'the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must'.

There are worse ways to end the morning walk on a work-from-home day. I'm sure there are.

So happy to see these two brilliant women recognised with honours: Dame Karen Buck, a dedicated public servant and APPG on Access to Justice chair; and Sue Bent OBE, until recently chief exec of Central England Law Centre and all-round inspirational leader. So richly deserved - congratulations to both!
