There is a lot happening in the news these days, but it seems like we should be paying a bit more attention to the fact that the world just saw its hottest day on record (in absolute terms), coming on the back of 13 straight record setting months:

Increasing temperatures cause the humidity of the air to also increase. As the air contains more water, when it rains, it rains more. This 'causal chain' is clearly observed in changes to UK climate, leading to more intense rainfall, increasing the risk of local flooding.

🧵Planet-warming contrails are “a spanner in the works” for the aviation industry. New research shows that although modern planes emit less carbon than older aircraft, they may be contributing more to #ClimateChange through #Contrails ✈️☁️📈 ow.ly/x35Q50SSaMV

Transport produces 29% of UK emissions. Policies tackling #ClimateChange should: 🚴‍♂️Encourage shifts towards cycling & walking, which can reduce NHS costs & mortality rates by 4 to 45 times 🚗Limit air pollution through uptake of EVs & public transport 📰ow.ly/TLVb50SUvhi

If you live in SE England, today is a hot summer day. This type of hot summer day is about 4°C hotter than it was in the 1960s. That's with about 1°C of global warming.

As well as contributing to emission reductions, the shift to plant-based diets can offer significant benefits to people’s health🥕 However, interventions need to enable those on lower incomes to adapt🤝 Read our analysis on #ClimateAction & health♻️💚 📰ow.ly/FMCs50SWxkP

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone shout about this. Britain's power system is totally ditching fossil fuels. Gas-fired power: collapsed by 40% over the last 3 mo. Coal: virtually extinct. Carbon emissions: lowest ever. Stay tuned for more in Electric Insights out next month.

Oh dear, some pretty major mistakes made in this The Telegraph article on the Government renewables auction results today. Some mistakes have been spotted and it's already undergone hefty revisions (see below) - but it remains fundamentally misleading. Here's what it got wrong 🧵
