We're callin' it: #Portland has the best parking policies in the US. Maybe even N. America. #Parking #PDX #DriveLess bit.ly/2B21vcK

It pays to be proactive! A new study finds that greeting students at the door increases engagement by 20% and reduces disruptions by 9%—effectively adding 1 hour of learning per day. edut.to/2CPY8Xj

ICYMI - The Portland City Council (well, three of them) approved a plan to build 18 transit, bike and pedestrian-centric projects in downtown and the central eastside. Some more thoughts (thread) oregonlive.com/news/2018/11/p…

When I was in grad school, ellenshearer gave us a transit-oriented housing tip: avoid living near stations marked as park-and-rides, cuz areas will be boring & unpleasant. TriMet wants its next rail line to have LOTS of park-and-rides. sightline.org/2018/11/26/por…

.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's #GreenNewDeal is the first time in history a Democrat has pushed a climate plan that proposes action commensurate with the scale and urgency of the crisis we face. It's time for the Democrats to step up and seize this moment. axios.com/green-new-deal…

#1 reason most people don't ride bikes or walk is & will always be the stress caused by roads filled with cars. Not weather, not hills, not distance, not being sweaty, not having to transport kids or pick up groceries. It's cars and this is never discussed bc cars are normalized.

In debates candidates always say teachers should be more valued but nothing changes to make that profession better paid and supported. Can you imagine how a former public school teacher in the WH might change everything? #DemDebate

This interview, in which @rmc031 details, step-by-step, how major national media built a false consensus about school safety with a little bit of bad data and a lot of echo-chamber groupthink, should be assigned in j-school On the Media wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm/e…

Today's declaration from the WH banning Russian oil is, potentially, a turning point for the world. If we use it to wean ourselves off fossil fuel fast, as Biden says we will, then we can take on both despots and climate destruction. It may be a day historians look back on

In an urban setting, bikes are consistently faster than cars for trips up to 5 km. E-bikes increase that distance to 10 km. Turns out drivers vastly underestimate time spent sitting in traffic, searching for parking, and walking to their final destination: dailyhive.com/vancouver/cycl…

Portland was too broke to build freeways or subways, so in the '90s, we decided to do the cheapest thing imaginable and add stripes to streets as they were being repaved. We called them "bike lanes." wweek.com/culture/2018/0…
