reading more abt what Oakland is doing and my jaw is on the floor. all the same stuff we've been highlighting/suggesting. they are just doing it. communicating clearly w public. explaining rationale. deepens my disappointed that portland remains paralyzed.

I keep hearing from city of portland concerns about resource allocation as a reason to not try some open streets stuff... then I also hear abt the huge speeding/reckless driving problem & all the signs/poles being hit & damaged. wouldn't the former help solve the latter?

we have it so backwards in portland... Our leaders are handing trust to ppl driving multi-ton vehicles on relatively empty streets (who are speeding and doing crazy stuff!) -- while distrusting people who want & need to walk & bike safely on those same streets.

We need more space so that people can maintain social distancing AND leave their houses and visit businesses in urban areas. Car traffic takes up all of the extra space in cities.
