What a BRILLIANT read! And a pleasure to make a summary of Zach Groshell's fantastic new book on explaining. So many useful ideas for the classroom and a must read for anyone wanting to find out about explicit instruction or refine their practice. Pdfs here: tinyurl.com/ykh5rrvn

This was absolutely BRILLIANT! Thanks Jade Pearce 👌👌 so clear, succinct & I loved the forensic look at the 3 stages of adaptive teaching- but through the lens of modelling, explaining and feedback. ‘Cognitively active’ is definitely the phrase I have been looking for this week!

Extracts from An Inspector Calls with tasks douglaswise.co.uk/blog/extract-a… There are 8⃣ in total. I’ve tried to avoid passages from the play that are likely to be well-known or that students will already have fully explored 🔍

If it's helpful, even though you're (probably) on holidays, I am resharing the very long blog I wrote about how we teach Whole Class Reading at our school. We have really fluent children who love reading and I've tried to break it down as much as possible. mrboothy6.wordpress.com/2025/01/03/who…

This is, I think, the best thing I've written: How to read seriously It's a deliberately long read (at over 6.500 words it'll take you about half an hour) Link to follow...

So close to the exams, students often think of characters and if they can think of quotations then they think they're safe BUT I encourage the following: overview, traits, quotations, their role/function, themes linked and character development.🧠💭 #AIC #AQALIT #englishlit

I took the tube to work this morning at rush hour. It was absolutely mobbed. Carnage. You know the drill. Queues of anxious commuters waiting to board. TFL guy yelling incoherently about the doors.
